Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Trust offers hospice care services for adult patients and their families across West Surrey and part of North-East Hampshire.
Phyllis Tuckwell’s services started in 1979, with 2019 being their Fortieth Anniversary Year.
In-patient services are provided at Farnham’s Phyllis Tuckwell Care Hospice (in Waverley Lane Farnham GU9 8BL); supplemented by out-patient and Care at Home visiting services based at The Beacon Centre (located at Gill Avenue Guildford GU2 7WW).
Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Chaplaincy
Hospice patients, their families and the staff are supportd by the Dedicated Chaplaincy. This, currently (2019) includes five volunteer chaplains associated with various church denominations, including Anglican, Interfaith and United Reform traditions, under the Leadership of Revd.Dr.Jill Thornton.
The team offers prayer with patients and loved ones, as well as space for meditation, contemplation and spiritual healing. Rituals including communion, anointing, baptism, blessings and marriage can be arranged. These rituals can take many forms, so the team works together with individuals to honour that which is held sacred and can speak best to them.
The team maintains a contact database for those of other faiths, as well as the Humanist Society, and can liaise as required to enable a meeting – we are happy to welcome people from your own faith community, respecting those of all faiths and none and understanding that a person’s spirituality has many forms and expressions in life.
You can help ...
- By donating saleable but unwanted items, such as clothing, furniture CDs, DVDs and books, which can be sold in one of Phyllis Tuckwell’s twenty charity shops and furniture showrooms to raise needed funds. These can be found in Aldershot, Ash, Beacon Hill, Camberley, Cranleigh, Farnborough, Farncombe, Farnham, Fleet, Frimley, Godalming, Grayshott, Guildford, Haslemere and Sandhurst.
- By puchasing items from the charity shops.
- By donating money. Although the NHS and Government together cover some twenty per-cent of costs, this leaves a massive financial gap which relies on the generosity and support the local community, including one-off and regular donations and legacies from those remembering Phyllis Tuckwell in their wills.
- By donating your time - volunteers assist in the care home, in the network of shops and with fund-raising activities.
