Ministry of Food
Can you volunteer to help with the ministry of food provided by the churches in Glastonbury?
Help is needed for the foodbank, the Tuesday drop in and the Friday soup lunch.
Foodbank
Volunteers are always neded to help by delivering food parcels in the BA6 and BA16 post code areas. Transport is required and you need to be able to carry bags of food. A delivery can take up to two hours so you need to be able to be available in two hour blocks when needed/requested - vounteers can note on which days they may be available and are not "on call". To apply you will need references which will be taken up. You can apply by downloading the Foodbank Volunteer form, completing it and sending it to the foodbank.
Drop in
Glastonbury United Reformed Church (top of High Street) run a drop in on Tuesday afternoons 2-3.30pm for those who are vulnerably housed, in food poverty or in need of a social opportunity for friendship. It provides a warm dry meeting place and free filled rolls and hot drinks and other food as available.
Volunteers are currently required to be one of a team of responsible people providing this service and developing a safe community ethos while providing a service.
This volunteer post is subject to interview, references and a DBS check. See the Drop in poster for details.
Friday Soup Lunch
Soup and a pudding is provided on Fridays for those in need, which might be a physical or emotional need. Volunteers for the soup lunch provide a variety of services including collecting food donated by a local store. Preparing vegetables, cooking, serving and clearing away afterwards. Help may be needed every week or on a rota basis. For details of the type of help needed please see the Soup Lunch needs list.
