Holocaust Memorial Day
From Phil Mears, South East Regional Support Worker, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust
To members of 'Churches Together in Medway'
Each and every year on or around the 27th January Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is commemorated in the UK and many other countries. HMD is all about learning lessons from the past to create a safer and better future.
The Holocaust Memorial theme for 2018 will be 'The power of words'. (See PDF: Holocaust Memorial Day - 2018 Theme).
Medway has a strong and well established HMD partnership involving Chatham Memorial Synagogue, Rochester Cathedral, Schools/colleges and many others. In 2017 an event was held in Rochester Cathedral. In 2018 an event, currently being planned, will be held at Chatham Memorial Synagogue. All are welcome!
In addition to this I would be delighted if Churches in the Medway area could support HMD by displaying and using our resources. This could simply involve displaying our posters and offering our HMD booklet to members of your church. Many churches also incorporate aspects of the commemoration into the Sunday service closest to HMD. I have attached a bespoke guide for faith and interfaith groups which I hope would help in this respect. Every autumn we hold regional workshops across the UK. This year the South East workshop will take place in Rochester on Tuesday 3rd October 2017. If you are organising or supporting a 2018 HMD event then you would be most welcome to come along. More information on this link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e (...)
