News from around the District

Following on from Cumbria becoming an ecumenical county Mission Communities are being organised. This currently covers 4 denominations - Anglican, Methodist, URC and Salvation Army. Kendal is further split into 3 sub communities, each containing one of the 3 Anglican town churches.

Local news - well mostly news from KURC as they are the only church supplying news. Ordinary events appear in the calendar.

Prayer Shawl Ministry started in America  18 years ago. In a prayerful setting shawls are knitted or crocheted to be given to people in some kind of need. The love and prayer that goes into the making is felt by those receiving the shawl. Every first Tuesday 10.00 - noon at KURC. Shawls have been sent all over the country!

The URC church has a special, specific ministry to allow lay people to preside at communion - "Lay presidency at the sacraments". For the first time in their history communion at KURC was presided over by one of the two lay members who have permission to preside. This shows the way forward where there is a shortage of ordained ministers of the word and sacrament.
