The Passion Play: Oberammergau Passion Play is a passion play performed since 1634, involving some 2,000 performers, musicians and stage technicians, all local residents of the village. It is performed on open-air stages in the village.
It is a staging of Jesus’ passion, covering the short final period of his life from his visit to Jerusalem and leading to his crucifixion.
The play is performed repeatedly throughout the summer of each year ending in zero, so the next performances will be in 2020. Each performance takes place in a single day, typically from early afternoon until fairly late in the evening, with a meal break.Oberammergau is a town in the Bavarian Alps and is located in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in southern Germany. It is about 60 km south-west of Munich and about 40 km north-west of Innsbruck in Austria.
